Greetings Lupercalians one and all.

Eccodek mainman Andrew McPherson here writing from the distant lands of Guelph. Well first off, I’m seriously stoked to bring my take on global beats and music culture from the 4 corners of the big blue ball to you. While i won’t be travelling with the live 6-piece version of Eccodek (we hope to make good on that intention soon), I am juiced to bring you a dance floor crushing DJ set that will, with any luck, take you far, far away to lands distant and exotic. I’m going to bust out a pile of my recent remixes for Dubmatix, Real World’s Dub Colossus, Transglobal Underground, Delhi 2 Dublin as well as tracks from our recently released 4th album, Remixtasy. Fans of Eccodek will get to hear what inspires me to make the albums in this DJ set. My mandate, as always, is to bring our cultures together with one love under a blanket of bass and beats. I’ve lined up some wicked Nigerian Afrobeat, some west coast bass cultcha, the outernational sounds of the Middle East, Balkans, some deep dark dub and whatever else my fidgety musical mind stumbles upon.

Since Lupercalia clearly is about diversity, don’t forget to get your pen out and start dialing in on the ridiculous array of music that Lupercalia mainman Josh has pulled together. We should be so lucky. To misquote the Beastie Boys, ‘no sleep ’til Owen Sound’.

For those of you who don’t know Eccodek, we are a 2-time Canadian Music award winner, 2009 Juno nominee with 4 albums under our belts. Our blend of global, dub and electronic sounds has resulted in collaborations with singers and performers from India, Mali, Nigeria, Rwanda, Turkey, Fiji, Canada and beyond. There’s no border we won’t cross in an effort to push the sounds into new sonic territory. We’ve been loved up on the BBC, in Huffington Post, Boston Globe, Exclaim!, Now Magazine, the CBC and beyond.
We’ll be posting some live video of the band very soon as well as releasing some stellar live recordings we have amassed during our last tour to promote Remixtasy. It is a sick sick band mi amigos. You can find all sorts of distraction, music and more at these pages. See you in the strobe lights and under the subs. Peace and respekt.

Now how’s that for a run on sentence. Forty eight words crammed into the opening line of a blog. Do you think it has ever been done before? I’d like to think I am the first but I bet I am wrong. Do you ever get the feeling that everything has already been done before? I try not to think like that because it can really bum a guy out. Although, I find a great remedy for being bummed out is good ol’ fashioned rock and roll. Hey, which is what we plan on bringing up to the O. Sound at The Chaise Lounge this Feb. 18th.

As our usual guitar player is taking over Europe the three of us will be sporting new material and will also be joined on stage by the very talented and punctual Wyatt Burton of the Silverhearts on lead guitar. We are very excited about this as all three of us have always had a man crush on him. So come on out, make it, shake it and break it! It Owen Sounds like fun to me (zing!)

Hey there Owen Soundians! We’re definitely looking forward to playing for y’all. So get ready, and start practicing your drinkin’ because we’re bringing our infectious dance fiasco, catl’s own special brand of rhythm and blues, straight to you! Hopefully the weather co-operates with our travels as I’m sure the climate is much more forgiving in the sunny equatorial climes of Owen Sound than it is here in Toronto. As it happens, it was on the banks of the mighty Georgian Bay that I was conceived by the lust-filled and sun-soaked bodies of my dear and randy parent-folk.

All I I know is, you’re certainly gonna get some grind on the night we storm your fair city. We’re bringing a healthy sampling of songs from our upcoming album ‘Soon this will all be gone’, due out in mid-April. Tempt your ears with this little number from the new LP, our first single ‘Gold Tooth Shine‘, to get yourselves in the mood. We recently shot a video for the same song which should be coming down the pipe sometime in February. Look out for that sh*t, yo!

Meanwhile here’s a video from our last record ‘With the Lord for Cowards You Will Find No Place‘. It’ll give you an idea of what we look like when you have to identify our bodies in our overturned touring car. I assure you that we’ll be dressed exactly the same as we are in our video. Those are, after all, our driving costumes. ‘With the Lord for cowards’, our handsome t-shirts, and our official regulation catl-issue ‘Make Catl Proud’ shot glasses will all be making the trip to your fine town as well. We’re also packing our newly minted drummer Andrew Moszynski, who’s past ‘beat-work’ melted knees and broke some hearts in flying the garage rock banner for Toronto outfit The Deadly Snakes.

We’re all looking forward to getting our drink on and teaching the good people of Owen Sound the traditional art of falling down. See you in a couple of weeks. – catl.

This is what we look like.

Here’s what we look like playing for the people LIVE at the Dakota Tavern.

Please subscribe to our Youtube Channel, more nonsense to come.

catl.bandcamp.com

‘In Toronto’s seemingly perpetually nascent garage rock underground, CATL seems to take its cues more from stripped-down Delta Blues than the Sonics or the Trashmen. And with Andrew Moszynski, of bygone T.O. garage rockers Deadly Snakes, on drums, CATL feels vitally connected both to the scene’s past and its future (or at least its present). A regular Toronto opener for acts like Heavy Trash and the Gories, CATL shows polished posers like the Black Keys what primordial garage rock is actually supposed to sound like. - The Onion Jan 10, 2012
