James O-L and the Villains write and perform their own unique blend of roots influenced folk-rock. Taking influences from a diverse range of genres, from folk to country to blues to punk rock, James O-L and the Villains have earned a reputation as a powerful live act and have gained a strong local following. Their style has been compared to the work of such artists as Neil Young, Elliott Smith, Pavement, Hayden and The Weakerthans.
2010 marked the release of James O-L and the Villains’ fifth album, Alive at the Colch!. This album is a collection of live performances of older and newer material and includes some sections of instrumental improvisation, which has become a staples of their live show.
James O-L and the Villains are currently writing new material for a forthcoming full-length release set for spring 2012.
