The Eighth Street Orchestra is a mostly brass ensemble playing its very own brand of vintage dance-band music. Formed in 2010, the Orchestra has appeared at the Field of Dreams Festival, the Chatsworth Town Fair, the Harrison Park Santa Fest, the Bayshore 2011 New Year’s Eve Event, has been featured in a street-arts documentary by Vivianna Kowenhoven, and appears regularly busking the streets, from the Owen Sound Farmer’s Market to Alexander Square along Toronto’s Danforth. Frequently joined by other local woodwind and brass musician friends, the core of the Orchestra is presently led by Gary Murphy on saxophones and vocals, with May Murphy on flute, guitar, vocals, congas, percussion and dance, Riordain Murphy on cornet, violin and percussion, Kaelin Murphy on cornet, clarinet and saxophones, and Nolan Murphy on euphonium, trombone, tuba and sousaphone.
